Texas Holdem
odds calculator
There are three important Odds in Texas Holdem strategy – Pot Odds, Bet Odds and Implied Odds.
Pot Odds are the odds a player gets when analyzing the current size of the pot against the next call.
Bet Odds are the odds a player gets after evaluating the number of callers to a raise, and Implied Odds are the odds after the assumed result of betting for the remainder of the hand.
Pot odds, therefore, are basically the ratio of the size of the pot in progress, divided by the size of the next potential bet, from the player’s (who’s about to make the bet) point of view and position. Probability is a crucial factor in Texas Holdem since these pot odds are used to take important decisions and actions such as fold, call, or raise.
The concept of pot odds, essentially, is used to compare the odds of completing a hand to the potential payoff. In other words, assumptions can be made that permit players to calculate their odds of drawing a card to make a winning hand.
A Simple Example of Pot Odds in online
poker:
A player has been raised a $5 by an opponent. To call the raise, the player must pay $5. If the total amount of money in the pot, including the uncalled raise before the potential call is $30, the pot odds for the call become 6-to-1. If the player decides to raise another $5, the potential bet becomes $10 and the pot odds 3-to-1.
Calculating Pot Odds in Texas Holdem:
Simply put, in order to calculate pot odds in Texas Holdem, you need to do a simple division after comparing the total number of unknown cards to how many outs you have. Refer to this example:
There are 46 unknown cards if you are four to a nut flush on a turn - that’s 52 minus your 2 pocket cards and 4 on the board. 9 cards are the same suit as your flash draw from those 46 cards. That means 37 cards will be useless, and 9 will give you the nut flush hand. The Odds: 37:9, or 4.1 to 1 odds against making your draw.
The trick here is to call a bet if there is already 4x that amount already in the pot. So, in a game of $5/$10 limit, there would have to be at least $40 already in the pot in order to justify your calling that $10 bet to see the river.
Odds of Completing a Hand on the Next Card:
The following are the most common instances in which you'll need to calculate pot odds in Texas Holdem:
· Outs – 4: If you have an Inside Straight Draw, and drawing to a straight, your pot odds = 1: 11
· Outs – 6: If you have Overcards (2 high hole cards), and drawing to a Pair, your pot odds = 1: 7
· Outs – 8: If you have an Open-ended Straight Draw, and drawing a Straight, your pot odds = 1 : 5
· Outs – 9: If you have a Flush Draw, and drawing a Flush, your pot odds = 1 : 4
